The sea-side town of Mahabalipuram, with a boulder - strewn landscape, lies along the Coromandel Coast at a distance of 60 km from Chennai (Madras). The history of this town dates back to over 2000 years; having always served as a stronghold citadel of the Hindu-Dravidian culture throughout the ages. In the ancient times Mahabalipuram was a prominent sea-port in the Coromandel Coast, serving as a major hub of trade and commerce with South-East Asia. Mahabalipuram, also known as the City of Bali, figures in the UNESCO list of world heritage sites for its ancient shore temples.Apart from the shore-temples, Mahabalipuram is famous for its unblemished beaches – attracting tourists and travelers. Another crowd puller is the annual ‘Mamallapuram Dance Festival’ organized during January-February period. The dance festival showcases a large number of indigenous art forms performed by artists from all over the country. The Sthalasayana Perumal temple festival, Masimagam and Brahmothsavam are a few other events of tourist attraction held at Mahabalipuram.

Kumbakonam is one of the oldest towns in Tamilnadu and is famous for its Mahamaham festival. In the 7th Century it was the Capital of Chola Kings. Kumbakonam, the famous temple town of South India, is picturesquely located amidst the two rivers, Cauvery & Arasalar.

Day#7 Kumbakonam – Trichy – Madurai l

Trichy or Tiruchirapalli is a historic city situated on the banks of the scenic river Cauvery. This ancient city traces its origin way back to the Sangam period - considered as the golden age of Tamil literature. This period saw literature masterpieces being produced, dating as early as the pre Christian era and the early 1st millennium. Madurai was then the seat of Tamil Sangam or Academy of Learning.
